La Academia is a private 7th-12th grade school committed to providing the highest level of education to kids who have been under-served by the schools they have previously attended. Our goal is to provide a quality education in a safe and structured learning environment for students of all ethnicities, economic backgrounds and sexual orientations. We have successfully provided this kind of education for over 40 years. Our graduates are leading successful and fulfilling lives, contributing every day to the betterment of our community.
What We Do
La Academia provides a core education of four years of reading/writing, mathematics, social studies and science, while simultaneously challenging our students to explore their horizons and their participation in the world, so that they can fulfill their potential to become life-long learners and contributors to society. Unlike large public and private schools, our individual one-on-one approach to learning instills in each of our students a sense of their own self-worth and possibility, and the knowledge that they too can live out their dreams and make a difference in the world. We challenge our students on a daily basis to build strong character and to take responsibility for their own education and lives. We don’t stop with high school. We have developed an innovative program called Puentes, which means ‘bridges’ in Spanish.
How We Do This
There are never more than 65 students at the school. Our average class size is 13 giving the individual attention that each student needs and deserves. We provide individualized education and assess each student as a whole person. When a student is accepted to our school, we prepare a personal plan for that student based upon that student’s individual needs and aspirations. That plan becomes his or her roadmap to graduation.
In addition, we offer our students the ability of expand their horizons beyond their immediate community by providing them with the opportunity for international study and travel. In order to ensure our students are progressing academically, we use the Terra Nova, WRAT 4, Reading Plus Reading Placement Appraisal, and the ACT as assessment tools. Our students know that when they are at our school they are safe and free from the violence which often pervades their lives. We are a family. A central part of our vision is that we never outgrow our ability to know and care about each and every one of our students and to be able to give the time and attention to nourish each one toward achieving his and her highest potential.
Who We Are Looking For
La Academia is looking for students who are ready to take responsibility for their own education and who may need a second chance in order to do so. Our students are working to achieve their dreams of obtaining a high school diploma, a college degree, and finding a job that is economically and personally rewarding, in which they are making a difference in their community and the world around them.
La Academia offers free and reduced lunch program to all students. Denver Inner City Parish and USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
