La Academia

La Academia StudentsLa Academia is the Denver Inner City Parish’s high school for at-risk youth. La Academia has been changing young people’s lives since 1971. Just like struggling students across the nation, some of our students face poverty, homelessness, hunger, gang involvement, and drug addiction. What sets our school apart in helping students overcome these challenges is articulated in our mission which is “to develop and empower our students in a caring, rigorous, and transformative environment.” This mission is carried out in small, student-centered classrooms by La Academia teachers and staff who invest in every student as a whole person. We believe our students’ education would be incomplete without integrating the acquisition of knowledge with the development of basic life skills, a personal code of ethics, and a commitment to being positive participants in their communities. Our goal is for students to leave as compassionate, confident, and resilient people with a solid academic foundation for the next step in their lives.

We are committed to helping our students find an appropriate post-graduation path through our highly successful Puentes program. Puentes – the Spanish word for “bridges” – is La Academia’s college awareness and preparation program. It is a requirement for all 12th graders, and its success is proven by the fact that almost all of our students become the first in their families to pursue post-secondary education. Click here to learn more about Puentes.
