Science Teacher at La Academia High School

Job Description and Duties:

-Teach and plan for four high school science classes daily

-Teach and plan for one elective class

-Help with creating a day-to-day atmosphere of student success and commitment to personal, communal, and academic achievement.  Assist with student discipline and behavior.

-Attend staff meetings, staff planning and development sessions, student/parent meetings, fundraising functions and all other planned school and organizational events.

-Be available for after-school tutoring and homework help at least two days a week.

Salary and Benefits:

-Base salary: 32,000 + 100% health insurance, partial dental insurance, and optional life insurance.

-401k retirement account available.

 

Reports  to:
Principal (Charleen Ramirez-Mares) and Vice Principal (Marc-Paul Johnsen)

 

Education Requirements:

-Associate’s degree in content area or related field

-Desirable: Bachelor’s degree and teacher’s license in content area

 

Qualified candidates will have:

-2 years experience working in an urban setting

-Open to “retraining” by current staff in progressive and experimental educational practices

-Desire and ability to work with youth in multiple settings

-Highly organized with strong communication and interpersonal skills

-Ability to teach skills to students of all backgrounds and ability levels regardless of age

-Good character, integrity, adaptability, enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, self-control and works well with a diverse staff

-Bi-lingual desired

-Computer skills and knowledge of Smart Board technology and Reading Plus literacy software teaching experience preferred
